Robertson Winery Chenin Blanc 2010 at £4-79
Robertson Winery is highly regarded for producing wines of excellent character and consistency of which this is no exception! Crammed full with pineapple, melon and green apple fruits complemented by a firm structure and balancing acidity.
A deep, crimson red Shiraz from a large estate in the Coastal region of South Africa, specialising in ecologically sustainable farming. Showing rich, plum aromas with touches of white pepper and hints of ginger, this is a rich, powerful wine with plenty of fruit character.
Boschendal Chenin Blanc 2010 at £5-99
From one of South Africa’s original wine farms comes this fruity, well-balanced and full bodied wine, distinguishable by its exotic mango and honey aromas. The palate has a core of tropical fruit flavours with hints of nuts and honey, the result of weekly lees stirring in a process called ‘battonage’, which allows for greater richness in the wine.
Barista Pinotage 2009 at £5-99
From the Val de Vie wine estate in the heart of the cape winelands, where wine production dates back to 1825. This is a deliberately modern offering by winemaker Bertus Fourie, who has concentrated on drawing out the coffee-like aromas of South Africa’s signature grape. Intense on the nose, with a bouquet of coffee, chocolate and cherry, with meaty, savoury hints. The tannins are ripe, perfectly suiting the round and mouth-filling plum and mulberry fruit. Drink on its own or with red meat dishes. Bertus’ recommends a blue-cheese-filled brandy snap with chocolate and roasted coffee beans!
Working to stringent environmental, ethical and quality standards, La Motte wines enjoy success worldwide. Aged in French and American oak for 16 months, this Shiraz shows intense black cherry and blueberry fruit integrated with cigar box, coffee, clove and cinnamon spice. Full bodied with chewy berry fruit and plenty of peppery spice on the palate.
