Description
Pinot Noir is the finicky grape prized in the pricy wines of Burgundy. But Germany also makes silky, elegant Pinots, a bit more sensibly priced too. The wines are particularly charming from the warmer climate of the Pfalz, where you’ll discover the Gabel family domaine. They’ve been creating exceptional wines since their foundation in 1665! 13th-generation Oliver Gabel is winemaker today, having trained in Baden, Burgundy and South Africa. Since returning to the family estate, he’s made Pinot his vocation and it accounts for 70% of production – Pinot Noir, Blanc and Gris. With exceptional limestone (kalkstein) soils and a protected microclimate, this Pinot Noir is supple, ripe and aromatic, while 18 months in cask lends a smoky edge.
