Stumble Vineyards Chenin Viognier 2008

SORRY THIS WINE IS NOW SOLD OUT

‘Bruce Jack runs his winery by the seat of his pants and from the front seat of his car. If you’ve not done yourself the favour of drinking one of his wines, I urge you to do it now”. So says wine commentator Michael Olivier, author of Crush, 2007. And judging by this soft, juicy Chenin Blanc and Viognier blend, we should all drink a glass of big-time Bruce’s wine straight away! The freshness of the Chenin Blanc, combined the aromatic Viognier makes this the ideal pick-me-up aperitif. It also has enough weight and flavour to go with seafood, pasta with a light sauce, white meats, avocado with prawns, quiche or nectarine and halloumi salad.

Groenendal Vineyards Merlot 2008

SORRY THIS WINE IS NOW SOLD OUT

Gifted winemaker, Frank Meaker took full advantage of South Africa’s sun-packed 2008 vintage to create this super-smooth red. He added a healthy splash of Cabernet Franc to add an extra dimension of crisp, crunchy fruit to magnificently rich Merlot. The wine was then left to mature in premium oak barrels before Frank deemed it ready for release! Bright purple in colour with rich cassis, plum and chocolaty-spice aromas. Soft on the palate with lots of captivating fruit. Long lingering aftertaste with a meaty structure. A gorgeous, mouthfilling glassful on its own!

Victoria Peak Chardonnay Viognier

SORRY THIS WINE IS NOW SOLD OUT

Enjoy the smooth ripe fruit of New World Chardonnay, lifted by a portion of blossom-scented Viognier in this luscious white from the Cape. It is the work of the Groot Eiland cellar, which was delighted to have been honoured in 2006 with the most coveted award on the South African competition circuit, the General Smuts Trophy. Placed at the foot of the majestic Du Toitskloof and Bossieveld mountain ranges, in view of the many cascading Winter waterfalls, this area of the Cape is well known for its extraordinary scenery, excellent wines, and friendly and hospitable people. The unusual name Groot Eiland (big island) comes from the fact that the cellar and its vineyards are literally surrounded by the water of the great Breede and Molenaars rivers. Victoria Peak is an unusual combination of Burgundy’s smooth creamy Chardonnay (75%) with a portion of the Rhone’s top white grape, Viognier. A small amount of the wine was aged for three months in oak barrels to lend a gentle edge of toasty vanilla to the well-ripened fruit, without overwhelming it. Quality was particularly high in 2007 as slightly cooler temperatures led to whites with brilliant freshness and character.
