Laibach were the first certified organic block in Stellenbosch and this wine has become a benchmark for organic wine production in South Africa. Named in tribute to the 3,000 Ladybirds that are released each January to combat the presence of the mealybug and protect the vines. These little creatures are a remarkable deterrent and avoid the need for the use of pesticides to eradicate pests. This wine is a Merlot dominated Bordeaux blend, and has a complex nose with hints of spice, chocolate and mocha. Good structure with plum and mineral complexity and a lingering finish. Showing graceful elegance, this wine over delivers on quality and showcases this estate as one of the leading lights in South Africa.

2008 Viognier, Seidelberg Estate, Paarl
New Seidelberg winemaker Cerina De Jongh’s CV reads encouragingly: top of her year at Elsenburg College, hired by high profile Grangehurst and veteran of vintages worldwide. She’s thriving at this idyllic estate, founded in 1680 on the southern slopes of the Paarlberg, owned by German émigré Roland Seidel. Cerina’s Viognier, one of few in South Africa, veers away from the massive, oily ‘new world’ style. It’s fresh and clean with citrus and dried pear characters.
The Best of South Africa Case
We have selected two whites – a Chenin, which is a variety widely, and successfully, grown in South Africa. A Sauvignon, which excels in the cooler regions. Plus two reds – a superb Bordeaux blend and a sophisticated Cabernet. South Africa at its best.
Lands End Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa – rich and full fruit flavours with a hint of crispness.
