Voted South Africa’s ‘Winemaker of the Year 2009’, Bruce Jack learned his craft at iconic Aussie wineries Grant Burge and Simon Hackett and also worked a vintage in Bordeaux – where he was struck by lightning while fork-lifting a pallet of wine! Some might speculate that this was the source of all Bruce’s energy, not to mention his talent for super-charged whites – but the truth is that he knows the technical side of winemaking inside out and has real passion that shines through in every wine he makes. Made with Chenin from old, bush-trained vines and vinified in Bruce’s award-winning Flagstone winery, this crisp, appley white makes a delicious aperitif, and is a great partner for creamy sauced white meats or pan-fried belly pork.

Vin de Constance (50cl) 2005
If you’re after a dessert wine from off the beaten track, we urge you to try Klein Constantia’s Vin de Constance … the Cape’s most-coveted sticky. During the 18th and 19th Centuries, the sweet wine of Constantia was all the rage in the Royal Courts of Europe, favoured above Yquem, Tokay and Madeira. It even features in the works of Dickens, Jane Austen and Baudelaire. Sadly, production ended after phylloxera devastated the estate towards the end of the 19th Century, but Klein Constantia has recreated this glorious wine. The 2005 vintage boasts three Gold medals and a top international trophy. You’ll understand why when you taste its bright apricot and tangerine notes, laced with hints of quince and clementine. Pure, luscious and very, very long. Enjoy!
