De Wetshof Estate `Bateleur` Chardonnay

This wine is a reflection of Danie de Wet`s personal taste combining great depth and length of flavour with elegance and finesse. An in depth knowledge of his specific vineyard plots, allows him, in conjunction with barrel selection, to craft one of the best Chardonnays made in South Africa. Full spectrum of Chardonnay flavours explode in the mouth, but are tempered with fresh zingy lime acidity and a creamy textured finish.

Gooseberry Bush 2012

Nestled between the Breede River and the Langeberg Mountains, Bon Courage is the showpiece estate of Robertson. Its stately Cape Dutch homestead dates back to 1818 although grape growing only started there in 1921. Three generations later, the Bruwer family win armfuls of awards every vintage. It was Robertson’s best performing winery at the South African Young Wines Show 2009, with nine Champion Wines and 19 Gold medals. Shortly afterwards the 2009 Gooseberry Bush beat 200 wines to win the ‘Best White Blend’ Trophy. It’s an uplifting blend of mostly grassy fresh Colombard with a dash of lemony Sauvignon.Zesty fresh and appetising, this wine is best served chilled solo, as a party wine, or with avocado and prawn salad or grilled chicken.

The Huguenot Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Franschhoek is the culinary capital of South Africa – perhaps because of the influence of the French Huguenots who settled there in the 17th century. This white is from a top cellar in the region, and was created to honour the contribution of these immigrants to the country’s wine industry.Young winemaker Richard Duckitt began his career in Stellenbosch, quickly showing a flair for his craft at the Muratie Wine Estate and going on to gain valuable experience at the world renowned Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in the Napa Valley. He crafted this fine Sauvignon Blanc using a special yeast in slow fermentation, which helped bring out its delicate herby aromas. We recommend partnering with salt crusted cod and olive tapenade, or with shellfish.

Fairview The Back Road Durif 2010

Durif may have been ‘born’ in southwest France, but it’s really come into its own in the warmth of the New World. Our Aussie producers were first to take up the baton with this grape and have been supplying us with best sellers such as Black Stump. But this variety is equally at home in the Cape, especially in the able hands of Charles Back. Charles’s grandfather emigrated from Lithuania in 1900 and bought his first vineyard in 1916. He won Champion wine in 1926 and today’s generation continues the prize-winning streak. Charles is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the South African wine trade. He’ll certainly be setting a trend with this fabulous, rich red. A wine to enjoy with hearty dishes – roast meats or casseroles.
