Description
Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in the Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa, Jordan Wine Estate was founded in the early 1990s by Gary and Kathy Jordan on a farm dating back over 300 years, purchased from Gary’s parents in 1982. Today, the estate, which spans approximately 164 hectares with views of Table Mountain, False Bay, and Stellenbosch, produces renowned wines that combine the elegance of the Old World wines with the fruity, approachable character of the New World ones. Timepiece is a line of single-vineyard wines from the estate. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (specifically, the CS46 clone) come from vineyards in Stellenbosch Kloof, planted on soils with Glenrosa gravel on the surface and Hutton soil formations deeper down. Here, the vines, over 35 years old, are located approximately 100 meters above sea level and enjoy a westerly exposure. After harvesting and fermenting in open vats, the wine ages for a year and a half in French oak barrels. In the glass, the wine reveals an expressive and intense character with a mature aromatic profile that opens with notes of blueberry, licorice, and dark chocolate, followed by hints of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is rich and seductive, fresh and balanced with soft tannins and a smooth texture. The finish is long, savory, and complex. It’s a characterful wine that demands pairing with rich meat dishes like roast suckling pig or a venison burger.
