This example comes from South Africa, where it flourishes in the ocean-cooled vineyards of the Cape. Lost Ostrich Grenache Blanc comes from Gerhard Swart, who has won the award for Best Small Producer seven times at the prestigious Veritas awards. He was out in his vineyards checking the grapes for ripeness when he heard a shout: “Have you seen my ostrich?” He’s not sure if they ever found it, but it’s become a standing joke as well as inspiring the name for this delicious white wine. Brimming with white peach, nectarine and a hint of citrus blossom, it’s superb with grilled prawns, creamy chicken dishes or a simple plate of chargrilled veg.
