White River is from the Bergsig Estate, set amongst beautiful countryside in Worcester and dominated by a mountainous backdrop and the sweeping Breede River. The Lategan family have tended the land for over 150 years and young De Wet Lategan made his mark soon after taking the helm, becoming South Africa's 'Young Winemaker of the Year'. De Wet has always been keen to support the local community, and recently received Fairtrade accreditation in recognition of this. His sorbet fresh Chenin Blanc is very crisp, thanks to night harvesting and cool fermentation capturing the lively lemon, lime and green apple characters of the grapes at the peak of their ripeness. Serve chilled as an aperitif or enjoy with white meat dishes, and pork.

Bruce Jack, the man behind this stunning white, has just been named South Africa's Winemaker of the Year - twelve months after his Flagstone cellar scooped Winery of the Year. Helped by a glorious 2009 Cape vintage, Bruce has triumphed again by rounding out classic, zippy Chenin (South Africa's white speciality) with soft, aromatic Viognier. He learned his craft at iconic Aussie wineries Grant Burge and Simon Hackett and also worked a vintage in Bordeaux, where he was struck by lightning while forklifting a pallet of wine! It could be the source of all his energy, not to mention his talent for super-charged whites! Truth is, he knows the technical side of winemaking inside out and has a real passion for every wine he makes. The Chenin comes from old, bush-trained vines and gives this wine great concentration and structure. Viognier adds honeysuckle scents, spiced peach flavours and creamy texture. A gentle kiss of oak and Bruce's all-round brilliance make for a very memorable white that excels with pan-fried scallops or char-grilled king prawns.

Full-flavoured, spicy and powerful ... one sip shows why Shiraz is so popular. And Shiraz has the Aussies to thank for its global appeal, with premium wines like Warburn Estate's Barossa Shiraz and Chain of Ponds from McLaren Vale. South Africa's The Chocolatier has wonderful chocolate notes, while Spain's Gran Bombero is a pure, old-vine Garnacha of astonishing complexity. You'll love how Shiraz marries to Cabernet in Talking Heads and Carignan in a fruit-packed blend from the Angove family. Order now and save #16!

Leading wine writers Hugh Johnson and Robert Joseph agree Robertson stands out in the Cape for quality and value. Bon Courage is firmly at the forefront of its top wineries coming away from the South African Young Wines Show 2009 with nine Champion Wines and 19 Gold medals. Replanted in the 1960s with Chardonnay and Sauvignon, the estate has 175 hectares of beautifully mature vines producing intense flavours. Grapes were picked at night and early morning to maintain maximum freshness. The juice of the crushed grapes was left on the skins for 24 hours to extract all those evocative pear and apple aromas. This has lovely balance and loads of easy South African style! Enjoy by the glass anytime or with grilled fish, roast chicken or pork.

As The Times has noted, "New World Chenin Blancs have more punch than the Gallic originals, a useful attribute given the full on flavours of modern cuisine". This deliciously ripe white goes a step further with the addition of rich and aromatic Viognier. It's made at the state of the art DGB cellar by winemaker Jaco Potgeiter. Jaco's secret is to identify the best vineyards across the Western Cape and by working closely with growers, ensure perfectly ripened, hand-harvested grapes. Waterval Hoek means Waterfall Corner and it's a place of immense beauty with stunning views of the Drakenstein mountains. Bursting with apple and apricot character this racy dry white goes really well with Summer salads or spicy fish and chicken dishes.

Sauvignon tends to best express its varietal characteristics when grown in cool sites. So rather than use his estate grown grapes for KC, winemaker Adam Mason headed to South Africa's most southerly coastal regions, Elgin, Elim and Walker Bay, where temperatures during the Summer months are the coolest anywhere in the Cape. Adam used to help Jean-Marc Sauboua make our Trophy-winning Bordeaux Sauvignons a decade or so ago, so he really is expert at bringing out that perfect balance of tropical fruit and grassy freshness. KC has pungent gooseberry, asparagus and tropical notes (typical for this grape) countered by a bracing sea spray complexity. Calls for grilled fish with a fruity salsa, chilli prawns or chicken and pineapple kebabs.
