Rose Wine
Created by Kobus Burger at the Rietvallei Estate in the Robertson region, the Wild Rush rosé uses Cabernet from vineyards planted on the highest hill of the region called 'Klippiesdal' in rich limestone soil. This rosé wine is made by bleeding the juice off the Cabernet skins, a method that preserves delicate aromas and varietal character. It has attractive summer fruit flavours of strawberry and redcurrant and a crisp refreshing acidity.

Douglas Green began his business with the purchase of the Forrer brother's Stukvat liquor business in Paarl's main road in 1938. Recognised as South Africa's first true negotiant wine producer, he bucked conventional wine trends and ignored regionalism in favour of quality and price. Traversing the Cape winelands seeking out first-rate vineyards and cellars, he sourced grapes and wine to blend in his top quality range of wines.

Founded over 320 years ago by a nostalgic former Rhine-dweller on the Simonsberg and Helderberg mountains, this historic estate was propelled from respected local entity to world champion standard-setter by experimentative, ingenious winemaker Adi Badenhorst. Gadget-obsessed owner Simon Barlow colluded enthusiastically, backing innovations such as aerial x-raying of vines to assess grape ripeness, and berry-sorting vibrator belts to grade out imperfect grapes.

Laibach have a very good terroir for this indigenous grape and have a plot of a Pinotage clone planted in 1996 that is ideal for making outstanding Rosé. Handpicked in the cool early morning and then gently crushed to produce the soft 'free run' juice. This creates a very light coloured wine and a tiny dash of Malbec(red)is added to enhance the colour to a delightful pale salmon pink. On the nose a lovely array of strawberry, mulberry and hints of cherry entice before exploding in the mouth with concentrated red berry characters. Beautifully balanced with a lively acidity to make this wine fresh and taste even fresher.
