This wine has a full, smooth palate with blackberry flavours and cigar-box aromas. The name commemorates John Xavier Merriman (1841 - 1926), who purchased a farm in 1892 which later became Rustenberg Wines. He was the last prime minister of the Cape Colony before the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910.

It is good to break all the rules and make a wine from grapes grown in several different areas and this is what Warwick estate have done. You would have thought that the name would imply three separate grapes blended together but rather confusingly it is four! Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinotage and Merlot. The difference comes in the long barrel maturation (34 months) that this blend is given, making for a supple, full flavoured glassful of South Africa that is a bit special.

Platinum Shiraz is one of the best wines produced at Lyngrove Estate. It is an exceptional red wine, characterised by high fruit concentration and a complex structure, due to the 12 month ageing period in new French oak barrels. It is intensely deep and dark red in colour the nose is rich and pronounced with hints of smokiness. On the palate, it offers intense fruit flavours and subtle oak characteristics, but remains powerful and structured with soft tannins. The finish is extremely long, with smoky and spicy flavours.Medals...2009 Decanter World Wine Awards - Bronze medalLyngrove Wine Estate Lyngrove Wine Estate is a big player in South Africa, and we are very proud to work with a wine estate with such dynamism, expertise and which offers such fantastic wines. This interesting vineyard site is tucked away between three hills, which create a heat-retaining environment that produces a warm and open Syrah, with an abundance of aromas. Notes of liquorice and charcuterie accent the nose and palate, adding a savoury complexity to the sweet-fruited backbone.
