Chenin Blanc 'Reserve' De Morgenzon, Stellenbosch Translated, De Morgenzon means simply 'the morning sun' and was so named because it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof Valley to see the sun due to its high altitude and aspect. The vineyards cover the top southern and eastern slopes of Ribbokkop, overlooking the pinnacle of Kanonkop from where a cannon was fired to alert the farms in the region that a ship had put into Table Bay. The estate's owners (Wendy & Hylton Applebaum) are focused on producing top quality wines but are somewhat experimental in their approach. The vineyards are nurtured on a constant diet of classical music. Just taste that glissando !

John X Meriman, Rustenberg Estate, Stellenbosch Founded in 1682, this historic estate has been owned by the Barlow family since 1941. Experimentative winemaker Adi Badenhorst has been the catalyst for innovations such as aerial x-raying of vines to assess grape ripeness. Lavish production values for this Merlot-Cabernet blend (named after an eminent ex-Rustenberg owner) - hand harvesting, ageing in French oak -have resulted in a silky-textured style with rich flavours of cassis, plums, vanilla and spice. Glenelly Estate Reserve Chardonnay, Stellenbosch Glenelly Estate, purchased in 2003 by Madame May de Lencquesaing following her sale of famous Bordeaux Chateau,Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande can be found on the southern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in Idas Valley, Stellenbosch. Madame May, at over 80-years of age, decided that rather than easing into her retirement she would add to her 30 years of experience in the wine business. She believed in the soil, the micro-climate and the potential for quality wines in the 128 hectare property. Winemaker, Luke O'Cuinneagain, has s suitably Francophile approach to winemaking which was no doubt nurtured whilst working several vintages at high profile estates in Bordeaux and Alsace. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice transferred to new 500 litre barrels after settling. Following 7 months on its lees the Grand Vin Chardonnay sees 10 months in barrel. It is well proportioned with great poise and lift.

Shiraz, River Grandeur, Robertson River Grandeur wines are named after the majestic Brede river which runs through the Viljoensdrift vineyards. Viljoensdrift is a family owned farm and winery with brothers Fred and Manie Viljoen at the helm. Manie, as viticulturist, manages the vines and deciduous fruit, while Fred works his magic in the cellar. In 1998 Fred and Manie opened the cellar door after 30 years of supplying grapes to the local co-op and now they are reaping the benefits of their making.
